Description: Patrolman John Carville was shot when he attempted to arrest a suspect who was brandishing a gun in a store and making threats. Sergeant Lauriston Stewart was in pursuit of the suspect when he was shot multiple times by the suspect. Patrolman Carville died of his injuries the next day. Sergeant Stewart died five days later on July 22nd. Their assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to life which was later commuted to 20 years in prison.
