Description: Deputy Clark was involved in the pursuit of a suspect who was involved in the murder of Colorado State Patrol Lieutenant Hiram Short two days prior. The Eagle County Sheriff's Office set up a roadblock. The suspect rammed into the blockade and went into the ditch. He fled up the hillside and was pursued by lawmen. The suspect fired at Deputy Clark, hitting him in the face. Deputy Clark died five hours later while waiting for treatment at the hospital. The suspect was captured, convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Colorado State Penitentiary.
