Description: Lieutenant Cavagnaro was injured in a single-vehicle automobile crash when he swerved to avoid an oncoming car travelling at a high speed. His vehicle skidded on the wet road and crashed into a tree. Lieutenant Cavagnaro suffered a fractured skull and died en route to the hospital. An investigator, who was working with Lieutenant Cavagnaro to locate a witness, was also injured but survived.
