Description: Sergeant Cottingham responded to a call where a female suspect was attempting suicide with a gun. Sergeant Cottingham responded quickly to the scene, calmed the suspect, took the weapon, and escorted her to the emergency room. When Sergeant Cottingham returned to the station he experienced chest pains. Sergeant Cottingham called a fellow officer who lived close to the station for assistance. Sergeant Cottingham was transported to a local hospital where he remained in intensive care and died two days later.
