Description: Sheriff Collings and U.S. Marshal Al Burt went to a farm to serve a notice to the owner regarding a parcel of land to be used for road construction by the county. As the officers were leaving the property, the owner shot Sheriff Collings in the back. Sheriff Collings died the following day. The suspect was tried in a court of law and sentenced to life in prison.
