Description: On November 6, 1900, Patrolman Carpenter was shot during a riot that erupted during election day. Patrolman Carpenter was shot in the leg and lower hip. Patrolman Carter was transported to the hospital where his left leg was amputated. He was also permanently disabled in his right leg. Patrolman Carpenter medically retired from the department and died of his injuries on January 17, 1910. Special Officer Stuart Harvey was also killed while attempting to quell the riot.
