Description: Detectives Coopedge and Frank Wadley were shot and killed during what came to be known as the "East St. Louis Race Riot of 1917." The police received a report that an armed mob was on the rampage. Detectives Samuel Coopedge and Frank Wadley were dispatched to 10th and Bond. They were fired upon without warning. Twelve suspects were charged with murder and went to prison for the deaths of Detectives Samuel Coopedge and Frank Wadley.
