Description: Patrolman Samuel Childress was shot by a fellow officer who was angry that Patrolman Childress refused to patrol with him that evening on February 8, 1903. This dispute stemmed from a previous incident where Patrolman Childress had refused to patrol with him since Childress already had a partner that evening. The officers argued and without warning, the officer fatally shot Patrolman Childress in the thigh and head. The officer fled the scene but turned himself in the next day. He was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
