Description: Sheriff Cranmer was shot by a jailed prisoner as he made his rounds after mealtime. An accomplice had passed a handgun to the prisoner through the window of his cell. Sheriff Cranmer died of his injuries the next day. His assailant was convicted of murder and hanged.
