Description: Patrolmen Thomas Caniff and John Fugate were in the process of investigating a grocery store break-in when the suspect, who was hiding behind the counter, opened fire. Both men were shot in the liver. Caniff's right lung was also perforated. Thomas Caniff died from his injuries two weeks later. John Fugate died in 1964.
