Description: Senior Court Clerk Deal was shot, while off duty, as he answered a neighbor's call for help who had just been shot. Officer Deal retrieved his badge and gun from his home and apprehended the suspect. Officer Deal identified himself as an officer and ordered the suspect to surrender. The suspect responded by shooting Officer Deal in the chest. Although mortally wounded, Officer Deal returned fire, shooting the suspect several times. Officer Deal was transported to the hospital where he died. The suspect was convicted of murder, assault and armed robbery and sentenced to 45 years to life in prison.
