Description: Chief of Police Dickey was shot when he answered a burglary in progress at the Rolf Seeberg Ship Chandlery Company. Upon arrival, Chief Dickey and his fellow officers found the front store entrance littered with broken glass. As Chief Dickey entered the store, he was shot once in the chest and died at the scene. Within seven hours, his assailant was arrested, tried in a court of law and convicted of murder. The convicted man was executed by hanging a month later.
