Description: Deputy Dawes was shot as he and a posse attempted to apprehend two armed suspects who were barricaded in a cabin. Deputy Dawes was shot in the chest and died at the scene. Echo City Marshal Thomas Stagg was also killed in the battle. The suspects escaped but were later arrested.
