Description: Officer DeWit was killed in an automobile accident while he and his partner were on patrol in Richton Park, Illinois. While en route to an assistance call, another vehicle turned in front of their patrol car causing Officer DeWit to swerve to avoid a collision. The patrol car struck a fire hydrant. Officer DeWit was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His partner, Officer Sam Brown, received minor injuries in the accident.
