Description: Sheriff Davenport, accompanied by several other law enforcement officers, went to a residence to arrest a suspect for the theft of fifteen chickens. As Sheriff Davenport entered the second floor bedroom, the suspect shot him at close range. The lawmen returned fire and arrested the suspect. Sheriff Davenport died on the operating table at the local hospital.
