Description: Officer Doyle was shot while attempting to arrest a murder and robbery suspect. Officers Doyle and Robert Mantia were on patrol when they were approached by a citizen who informed them that the suspect was aboard a CTA bus. The officers boarded the bus and questioned the suspect. The man opened fire, killing Officer Doyle and wounding several passengers. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed. His sentence was overturned (along with 164 other death row inmates) and commuted to life in prison by Governor George Ryan.
