Description: Chief Daugherty was shot as he and another officer escorted a prisoner to jail. The officers had just arrested a man for illegally selling whiskey. A friend of the arrested man who had witnessed the incident, approached the three men and shot Chief Daugherty in the back of the head, killing him instantly. The suspect fled the scene but was captured in Virginia. When the suspect was returned to Crisfield, Maryland he was lynched by an angry mob.
