Description: On December 5, 1937, Patrolman Donndelinger was shot in an exchange of gunfire as he and fellow officers attempted to arrest a suspect who had abducted another officer at gunpoint. Patrolman Donndelinger was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and died of his injuries five days later. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
