Description: Patrolman Duley and Deputy Game Warden Joseph Saunders were ambushed and shot while conducting a liquor raid. The officers were lying in wait for a suspect who was bringing a delivery of illegal whiskey to a residence. The father of the suspect emerged and fired on the lawmen. Deputy Saunders died at the scene. Patrolman Duley was transported to the hospital with several gunshot wounds and died shortly after. Deputies Rodney Roach and Lee Brown were wounded but survived. Their assailant escaped but was killed in exchange of gunfire with a posse three months later.
