Description: Deputy Sheriff Day was shot with his own gun by one of the prisoners he was transporting. Deputy Day had stopped in Van Zandt county to sleep for the night with his three prisoners when one of the prisoners got possession of Deputy Day's gun, shot him, and fled the scene. The prisoner was apprehended, charged with murder and sentenced to life in prison.
