Description: Sergeant Davenport and other members of a regional auto-theft task force attempted to search a rural property for stolen cars in Hamilton County, Texas. While doing so, Sergeant Davenport noticed movement in a nearby barn. As he approached the barn he was shot with a high-powered rifle. The suspect who was hiding in the barn then held two other officers at gun point for more than a hour before fleeing into nearby woods and committing suicide. Lampasas County Deputy Sheriff Bob Montgomery and Department of Public Safety Trooper James Jones were wounded in this incident.
