Description: Jailer Douglas suffered a heart attack while in training to become a deputy sheriff. Jailer Douglas had been a Jailer for two years before he transferred to the Sheriff's Department to begin training for the position of deputy. At the Harris County Sheriff?s Academy, the cadet class was participating in a regularly scheduled physical training session under the direct supervision of the team leader. The group had performed a series of warm-up exercises then jogged for approximately ? mile when Jailer Douglas collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he died of a heart attack. His certification as a Jailer had not expired when he entered training to become a deputy and he still retained his law enforcement status.
