Description: Chief Elliott and a deputy attempted to raid a still in the mountains when they were ambushed and shot. Although wounded in the neck, the deputy was able to return to Louellen to get help. Officers returned to the scene and carried Chief Elliott 1.5 miles on a stretcher to Harlan Hospital where he died of his wounds two days later.
