Description: Sheriff Edmisten was injured in a single-vehicle automobile crash after transporting a convicted inmate to Raleigh. Sheriff Edmisten's vehicle plunged into a ditch and he suffered broken ribs and internal injuries. Sheriff Edmisten was transported to the hospital where he died six days later.
