Description: Captain Ellinger was shot as he attempted to disarm a suspect who had just shot a woman. Captain Ellinger was talking to the woman and her friend when the suspect approached and began shooting at them. Captain Ellinger was shot after he exited his vehicle and struggled with the suspect to gain control of the gun. Captain Ellinger was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach and died shortly after. The suspect pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge.
