Description: Senior Patrol Officer Ellis was shot and killed while investigating an armed robbery. Officer Ellis and his partner had information that the alleged suspects had entered an apartment after fleeing the scene of the crime. Officer Ellis and his partner were granted entry into the apartment and the occupant stated that he was alone in the apartment and there were no weapons present. When Officer Ellis opened the bedroom door to continue his search he was shot in the head by another person hiding in the bedroom. Officer Ellis's partner returned fire injuring the assailant. Officer Ellis was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds two days later.
