Description: Marshal Evans was escorting a suspect to headquarters who was wanted for questioning in the disappearance of a prostitute. The suspect drew a concealed weapon and fired on Marshal Evans, who returned fire. Marshal Evans died two days later. The man was tried in a court of law and sentenced to hang. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment by President Woodrow Wilson. The convicted murderer escaped from jail in 1940 and was never recaptured.
