Description: Deputy Sheriff Elder was shot when he responded to the sounds of gunfire and engaged in a gun battle with two murder suspects who had just killed his brother, Sheriff Isham Elder. Deputy Elder was shot several times and died at the scene. Deputy Sheriff Jack Bailey was also killed in the incident.
