Description: Deputy English, Sheriff O. Hale and Deputy W. Hopper were attempting to arrest two escaped convicts. Deputy English ordered the men to surrender three times. One of the convicts responded by shooting Deputy English in the head. Deputy English died of his injuries the next day. His assailant was captured and sentenced to 99 years in prison for the murder. The second convict was also arrested.
