Description: Deputy Ezzell was escorting a suspect to jail when the suspect broke free and ran. Deputy Ezzell pursued the suspect into an alleyway and threw his weapon at the suspect. The weapon struck the suspect in his back. The gun discharged when it fell to the ground and Deputy Ezzell was fatally shot in the abdomen. He died a short while later at the local hospital.
