Description: U.S. Coast Guardsmen Ferreby, Scott Chism, Michael Moss, and William Simpson were on a drug surveillance (law enforcement) mission when a large wave caused their small boat to capsize. The four guardsmen were separated from their vessel and remained in 36-degree water for 4.5 hours before being rescued. Guardsmen Chism and Christopher Ferreby died shortly after arriving at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, New York. Guardsmen Michael Moss and William Simpson suffered from hypothermia and recovered from their injuries.
