Description: Deputy Sheriff Fatch and Deputy William McCarron were shot as they attempted to serve a warrant for assault and battery. Deputy Fatch returned fire and shot the suspect. Deputy Fatch was transported to the hospital where he died later that evening. Deputy McCarron survived his injuries. The suspect was removed from the jail by an angry mob and lynched.
