Description: Deputy Flippin and Deputy Sheriff Andrew McGinnis in pursuit of the last remaining members of the Tom Carlisle bandit gang who were wanted for the murder of a citizen as well as the murder of Deputy Sheriff Webster Reece and the wounding of Officer Frank Edwards that had occurred the day before. The lawmen cornered the two fugitives in a thicket about five miles from where Deputy Reece had been killed. Deputy McGinnis and Deputy Flippin were both shot in the ensuing gun battle. The two fugitives were also shot and killed. Deputy McGinnis died at the scene. Deputy Flippin, wounded in one ankle, was taken to the hospital where he died early the next morning. Officer Edwards died of his wounds two months later.
