Description: Guard Ford, of the Central State Prison, was supervising a group of convicts who were cutting wood. Two convicts fled into the woods in an escape attempt. Guard Ford and other officers pursued the convicts on horseback. As they attempted to cross the Brazos River, Guard Ford's horse stumbled. Guard Ford fell into the river and drowned.
