Description: Detective Free was shot by a mentally deranged man who was insulting the female residents of a boarding house. When Detective Free and his partner entered the residence and approached the suspect, the man produced a revolver and shot Detective Free in the abdomen. Detective Free returned fire, killing his assailant. Detective Free died of his injuries five days later.
