Description: Deputy Fitzgerald was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a suspicious vehicle call. Deputy Fitzgerald's patrol car was struck head-on by another vehicle that crossed the center line. Deputy Fitzgerald and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital where they were both pronounced dead. Texas Department of Public Safety investigators determined that poor lighting along the unlined country road was a factor in the accident.
