Description: Officer Forster was struck and seriously injured while directing traffic at an accident scene on the Major Deegan Expressway. Officer Forster was struck and thrown approximately 50 feet from the point of impact. Officer Forster was transported to a local hospital with back and leg injuries, and internal bleeding. During the first surgery, one of his legs was amputated. Officer Forster remained in a rehabilitation hospital until his death one year later.
