Description: On June 13, 2002, Police Officer Fumiatti was shot as he attempted to investigate a possible drug transaction. Officer Fumiatti was shot before he could exit the vehicle and draw his weapon. The bullet struck him in the head and cracked the top vertebra in his neck. The bullet, which was never removed, caused partial paralysis to his arm. Officer Fumiatti spent a month in the hospital and over a year in intense physical therapy. A pacemaker was also implanted in his chest. After 18 months, Officer Fumiatti returned to work. On January 10, 2007 Officer Robert Fumiatti died of natural causes related to cardiac sarcoidosis. His assailant, a convicted felon, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for shooting Officer Fumiatti and 47 years for various other offenses.
