Description: Troopers Werner Foerster and James Harper were patrolling the New Jersey Turnpike and stopped a car to question the occupants. Two of the suspects drew semi-automatic weapons and fired. Trooper Foerster was struck twice in the chest, and Trooper Harper was hit in the shoulder. One of the suspects then removed Trooper Foerster's weapon and shot him twice in the head with his own gun. Two of the suspects were arrested, found guilty of first degree murder and received life sentences. In 1979, one of the suspects escaped prison and fled to Cuba. The second suspect is currently seeking parole.
