Description: Police Officer Fugate collapsed after a scuffle with an intoxicated suspect. Officer Fugate and Captain James Fife engaged in a physical struggle with the suspect as they attempted to arrest him. Captain Fife sat on the suspect while Officer Fugate handcuffed him. The suspect continued to resist as the officers placed him in the patrol car. Officer Fugate sat with the suspect in the back seat. Officer Fugate sustained several blows from the suspect which resulted in a wound on his forehead and bleeding from the mouth. When they arrived at the city jail, Officer Fugate collapsed and died at the scene of heart failure.
