Description: Police Officer Giniewicz died as a result of a gunshot wound sustained 26 years earlier during an armed robbery. On February 19, 1985, Officer Giniewicz and his partner were both off-duty and patrons at a local restaurant when three suspects attempted to rob his partner at gunpoint. Officer Giniewicz identified himself as an officer and attempted to stop the suspects. The suspects opened fire and shot Officer Giniewicz in the chest. The suspects were charged with attempted murder of a police officer and armed robbery. Officer Giniewicz was paralyzed from the waist down and underwent several surgeries. Officer Giniewicz died of complications due to his injuries on December 7, 2011.
