Description: Special Deputy Garner was among a group of deputized posse members sent to arrest a moonshiner in Hardin County, Tennessee. After traveling the entire night, the deputies surrounded the suspect's house. Without warning, gunfire erupted from the residence. Special Deputy Garner was fatally shot. U.S. Marshal James T. Brown was wounded but survived.
