Description: Officer Gernale was intentionally struck and killed by a suspect fleeing the scene of a domestic assault. The suspect had followed his wife to her father's home and assaulted her father. When officers arrived, the suspect attempted to flee the scene. While fleeing the scene the suspect struck and killed Officer Gernale. The suspect then struck an ambulance injuring the three medics on board. Fellow officers were able to stop the suspect and take him into custody. Officer Gernale suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect received a life sentence.
