Description: Patrol Officer Gaul had stopped his department motorcycle to assist a group of children cross a busy intersection in Peoria State Park. As he returned to his motorcycle, he was struck by an oncoming speeding vehicle driven by a juvenile. Officer Gaul was thrown more than 30 feet, and suffered a concussion, broken arms and legs, a punctured lung, and several broken ribs. Officer Gaul died at the hospital three hours later.
