Description: Constable Gilbert was making his normal rounds in the "red light" district in Ely, Nevada when he responded to a woman's cry for help. When Constable Gilbert attempted to arrest the drunken man who was beating the woman, he was shot twice in the torso. Constable Gilbert returned fire, killing his assailant. Constable Gilbert died of his injuries the next day.
