Description: Officer Griffis, of the Glades Correctional facility, was shot by two suspects who were trying to free an inmate. Officers Griffis and Steve Turner were transporting an inmate to a doctor's office in West Palm Beach when they were ambushed by two armed men. When Officer Griffis refused an order by one of the gunmen to free O'Brien, he was shot in the head and chest with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Both suspects were convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to death.
