Description: On December 16, 1949, Patrolman Gillespie was struck by a vehicle as he directed rush hour traffic. Patrolman Gillespie was transported to the hospital where he remained for over three years and underwent 16 operations. Patrolman Gillespie was released from the hospital on September 20, 1953 and returned home. Patrolman Gillespie suffered a fatal heart attack, which was related to his injuries, on January 25, 1955.
