Description: Deputy Sheriff Gunter and Deputy McDaniels were transporting two escaped bank robbers to the sheriff's office in Sherman, Texas. Deputy McDaniels transported the prisoners in the police car, and Deputy Gunter drove the suspects stolen car. While en route to Sherman, Deputy McDaniels suddenly slammed on his brakes. Deputy Gunter then crashed into the back of the police squad car, causing serious head injuries. Deputy Gunter was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries the next day.
