Description: Chief of Police Gross was shot when he went to investigate the sounds of shots fired. Two robbers had just held up a gambling den and were fleeing the scene when Chief Gross arrived. One of the robbers shot him and fled. Chief Gross was transported to the hospital where he died the next day. His assailant was arrested and charged with first degree murder.
