Description: Sheriff Griner and Jailer John Smith were shot and killed after stopping a car suspected of transporting illegal whiskey. The suspect in the car opened fire on both officers, killing Jailer Smith and mortally wounding Sheriff Griner. Sheriff Griner was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries four days later.
